AWANA Overview
AWANA is part of our commitment to reach and prepare the youngest members of the family

Edwards Road Baptist Church offers AWANA as part of her commitment to reach and prepare the youngest members of the family.

What is AWANA?
AWANA is a ministry committed to “reaching boys and girls with the gospel of Christ and training them to serve Him.”  It takes its name from 2 Timothy 2:15:  Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed.  The heartbeat of AWANA is reaching children around the world with the good news that Jesus Christ loves them and can save them from sin.  The club for three- and four-year-olds is called "Cubbies"; for K5 through 2nd graders, "Sparks"; and for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders, "T&T" (Truth & Training).

What does the ministry look like?
Sunday evenings consist of a 90-minute session featuring three segments: Game Time, Handbook Time and Council Time. During Game Time, boys and girls play games on the unique AWANA Game Square.   In Handbook Time, children work through age-appropriate handbooks memorizing Bible verses and doing activities ranging from patriotism to community service. They earn awards based on their work. The final segment, Council Time, consists of singing, puppets, Bible stories and lessons based on Christian principles.

Cubbies (3 and 4 year olds) run a little different program, with a weekly puppet show featuring Cubbie Bear, Ern E. Elephant, Luv E. Lamb, Zip E. Zebra, and Gigi Giraffe. They'll work on crafts and learn Bible verses through song and play (no "game time" for this crowd).
